Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When her father passed away as a carnival barker, as an infant, she had to help support the family working both as a cleaner and a server. Ruth attended the school in the tenement district of Boston's most deprived. However, she was only in school for a couple of years, then going on to pursue an acting profession. The path she chose was filled with challenges. After obtaining a position as a model in New York as a model for a detective magazine she had a difficult time trying to secure opportunities for stage. As a hat check girl at a nightclub she quit and returned to Boston. There she made a buck as an usherette by during the day and then at night was a part of the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first role as an actor. Also, she studied drama. She ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
